Medical Review
Following discharge, police took the patient to juvenile detention. She was checked into the facility. Staff checked on her every 15 minutes. Around 1:45am she was noted to be apneic and pulseless. Staff began CPR and called 911. EMS run sheet is listed below:
Unfortunately, the information above is the extent of the medical record from the bounceback visit that was included in the exhibits for this trial. The patient was intubated in the field. She was given several rounds of epinephrine as well as vasopressin. The exact rhythm is unclear from the EMS report, although there is no mention that she was ever defibrillated. We do not have access to prehospital rhythm strips, any ED testing or imaging. We do know that while she was in the ED, she maintained a pulse but was unresponsive. Shortly after arrival in the ED, she was transferred to the ICU.
Unfortunately, her condition continued to decline and she was declared dead at 6:03am.
