A lawsuit was brought by the fiance of the deceased patient. It was filed in 2014, about 2 years after the patient had passed away. The case slowly worked its way through the court system over the next few years. Preparations were being made for a jury trial, when the two sides eventually reached a settlement agreement. The case finally resolved, over 4 years after the patient’s death and nearly 2.5 years after the lawsuit was initially filed. The terms of the settlement are sealed and therefore not accessible to the public. The final court order is shown below.
